Health

Health is our most valuable asset, which we only appreciate when we are ill. Successful therapies and medicines are available for many diseases. But what about the “rare” diseases or the diseases for which there is no sufficiently promising therapy available? Babies die, children don’t reach puberty and adults die miserably. There is a huge need for action here!

The multi-indication active agent Elafin from Proteo Biotech AG has the potential to successfully combat some of these “rare” diseases. Elafin has been shown to reduce the damage caused by artificial respiration in premature babies with insufficient lung maturity. The tissue changes in the lungs in PAH (pulmonary hypertension), which were previously irreversible and led to death, can be reversed with Elafin and have a life-prolonging effect. Organ damage after major operations or transplantations is significantly reduced when Elafin is administered.

Elafin is a human-identical active substance that has already been recognized as an orphan drug (active substance against rare diseases) by the American and European regulatory authorities. Phase I and II clinical trials have been successfully completed. Before the start of the clinical approval study, phase III, we acquired a stake in the parent company, Proteo Inc. The investment is long-term and can turn out to be a “unicorn” if it is taken over by a pharmaceutical giant.
